Rex Matthews

Rex Matthews has more than thirty years’ experience providing supports to people with I/DD through a variety of services.  While attending Kansas State University in 1983 Mr. Matthews unknowingly began his career after accepting an internship working summers at a Christian camp for adults with I/DD.  Mr. Matthews continued each summer while living in Kansas and has remained in the field until this day. In 1987 Mr. Matthews moved to Phoenix Arizona and continued in the field with two other companies.  Arizona was in the early stages of de-institutionalization and there was an air of innovation, exploration and significant growth opportunities.  Mr. Matthews benefited from working closely with peers who went on to become leaders in the field.

In 1994 Mr. Matthews had the opportunity to join an Arizona organization based out of Tucson struggling to grow in the Maricopa County area.  This organization had a reputation for serving people with high needs and had just accepted 15 people with significant behavior health needs.  It was a challenge Mr. Matthews could not pass.  From May 1994 through February 2018 Mr. Matthews served as the Director, impacting the lives of thousands of people who either worked with or were provided services by this organization.

During those years, Mr. Matthews developed community-based employment services, expanded and developed in-home and residential options for people throughout Arizona growing from eight residential homes in 1994 to more than sixty programs and services throughout Central, Western and Northern Arizona.  During this time Mr. Matthews expanded services in many areas of Northern Arizona including Flagstaff and Payson.

Other highlights include the creation and operation of a twenty-four bed emergency foster care facility for the CRIT Indian Tribe in Parker Arizona, the creation and expansion of behavioral health homes for the elderly and children in Western and Central Arizona and expansion into retail and restaurant businesses opportunities for people with I/DD.

Vince Fahey

Vince Fahey has been working with individuals with I/DD since 1989 and has worked in the field cumulatively for over 20 years. He began while in college and has returned to the field several times, each occurrence taking on more responsibility and supervisory duties.

In 2005, he joined an Arizona-based company with locations all over the state, and Mr. Fahey found himself situated in the Phoenix metropolitan area where he began working as a Coordinator over 5 group homes, and overseeing a staff of 35 people. In 2008, he was promoted to a Director position where he oversaw the operation of group homes, in-home support programs, early intervention, foster care and adult developmental home programs.

Mr. Fahey continued to work for this company until June of 2018 and was grateful and honored to have the opportunity to serve individuals in the I/DD and foster care communities throughout Arizona. In the time that he was in charge of the developmental home program, Mr. Fahey was able to grow the program from one that served just three individuals in the Phoenix area to over 38 individuals spread out over the Phoenix metro area, as well as Flagstaff, Payson, Show Low and western Arizona.
